Interning at Fluff and Feathers
Fluff and Feathers All Animal Training is looking for dedicated animal lovers who are interested in learning more about animal care, training, enrichment, and behavior. We are opening our doors to select interns that follow our same mission and goals.
This will be a hands on experience on all aspects of animal care in order to increase your education and skills. Interns will work alongside owner Melanie Canatella to learn the ins and outs of the industry and trade secrets to animal care and management.
If you are considering a career in animal husbandry, care, education, or behavior, or you have a strong passion for animals, Fluff and Feathers offers a high-quality internship experience. You will gain hands on experience with parrots, canines, and other exotic animals as you help staff feed, clean, and socialize the animals. As apart of caring for any animal, this may include maintenance and house keeping duties. You will gain practical education on behavior concepts in a real-life setting with a variety of animals with varying backgrounds. You will develop a desirable work ethic that can be implemented into any aspect of your life. You will gain experience working hands on with animals in a professional environment. Even if you do not end up working with animals professionally, you will gain life experiences and skills that can be used in any field. This internship is to your benefit. Depending on what field you want to get into, your passions, your goals, etc. we will develop tasks and education within our ability that help give you that experience. You can also gain an experience that is perfect for your resume.
This opportunity is located in Harford County, Maryland. Onsite lodging is not available for this opportunity. Applicants do not have to be Maryland natives if you wish to temporarily relocate.
Interns are asked to work at least 4 hours every week for 3 months. You can work as much as you want to beyond that.
Some days there might be special opportunities for interns to be apart of. This includes travelling to different organizations to train and work with their animals. Carpooling is available for these events if you wish to participate!
The process is simple. At the bottom of this page is a questionnaire form that you will need to fill out and submit so we can get to know you! Once when you submit your form, if you meet our requirements, we will reach out for a Zoom call interview to continue to get to know you, and to be sure that the internship is a right fit. Following that, you will learn if you are accepted into the internship opportunity.
This internship is unpaid. There is no guarantee of a job opportunity after the internship is completed. Unpaid interns are not to take the role of any staff member. Most situations you will be working alongside staff members in order to complete tasks faster together. You will always be supervised in some way by staff members. This allows for you to ask questions and gain a higher level of education.
