Parrot Showering Online Class

Showering parrots is key to their and our health. Parrots need high humidity for their respiratory system, their skin health, their plumage appearance, and to help manage feather down dust. Decreasing the amount of dust in our homes will help our lungs overtime, as it is known to be harmful for humans overtime. It is a skill i have had to teach every bird that has come in my care, and I have helped hundreds of clients get their birds bathing as well.

This class is designed for people who:

  • Are looking to improve the welfare of their animals

  • Looking for a way to exercise their bid more or for birds who cannot fly

  • People whose birds are afraid of the squirt bottle due to it being used as a punishment in the past

  • Birds who do not like water or bathing

  • Caretakers wanting to grow in their skills and education

This hour long online class will guide you through the steps of learning how to get your parrot bathing. The class discusses topics like:

  • Shower perching options

  • Water temperature and its importance when bathing

  • Shower systems and methods

  • Blow drying your parrots

  • Desensitizing and counter conditioning the spray bottle for your parrot

  • Desensitizing the noise of the spray bottle and counterconditioning the sound

  • Training the acceptance of water touching your bird

  • How to train bathing behaviors through capturing

  • Bathing in the shower, bathing in the sink/bowl (puddle bathing), and other unique showering options

  • Troubleshooting

The methods discussed during this class are scienced based, and the class is aught by professional behavioralist and trainer Melanie Canatella, B.S., CPBT-KA, CPDT-KA, Fear Free Certified Trainer. Not only will you gain skills for showering your parrot, but topics discussed in this class are applicable to other aspects of parrot care and training.

This class is a generalized class and approach that may not work for all birds. We have tried to keep the topics broad and consider all variables.
